1) What’s your job title?

Mike Wilkins: Chef / Owner

2) Where do you do a majority of your business?

MW:  The Okanagan

3) Can you briefly describe your duties/what your job entails?

MW: Consulting work for restaurants, private dining, catering, retreats, pop up dinners.

4) What made you decide to start your own business?

MW: Sweat equity. Putting in the hard work for yourself versus other people. You only have yourself to blame for your success or failures. It's tough putting in the extra work for someone else's business with no return on your time investment.

5) Describe your typical work day.

MW: Wake up, check the Docket, send follow up emails, field questions from clients, shop for groceries, food prep, talk to clients on the phone or zoom if they prefer.

6) What is the biggest hurdle you’d say you’ve had to overcome while being self employed?

MW: Getting my name out there for sure. Exposure is huge, having a larger client list would make things a lot easier.

7) What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received in regards to running your own company, and who gave you the advice?

MW: Probably stay organized, write 100 lists and then write 100 more. I've honestly been given advice by many great entrepreneurs and it seems like the messages are always similar. Hustle and organization pays the bills!
