Business Owner Profile: Renee Gomes, Real Estate Agent.
Our users manage businesses of all kinds and sizes. This month, we’re proud to highlight some of the amazing entrepreneurs that use Docket daily!
1) What’s your job title?
Renee Gomes: My job title is “Real Estate Agent”; but you can also call me a match maker!
2) Where do you do a majority of your business?
RG: The majority of my business happens in the Vancouver area — East Vancouver is where I find myself a lot of the time. I usually go where my clients go, unless I am not familiar with the area, then I want to refer the business out so they are in the best hands.
3) Can you briefly describe your duties/what your job entails?
RG: My job entails a significant amount of communication and people skills. Being able to listen to to my clients and learn about what’s most important to them while they make one of the biggest decisions of their lives — finding a home. Home is everything!
4) What made you decide to start your own business?
RG: I had worked for someone else my whole adult life (15 years) and as I approached 30 I wanted to have the freedom to make my own timelines & goals. In real estate, the ceiling is however high you want to make it; success in real estate is determined by the amount of effort you put into your business and I love that.
5) Describe your typical work day.
RG: There really isn’t a typical day in real estate as you can be pulled in so many directions. Generally mornings start with coffee & e-mails, followed up with phone calls from any weekend open houses. Lunch or meeting with a lead, client or past client. Fitting in some sort of workout. Back to the office to socialize with other agents to see how the market is for them and what hurdles or wins they are facing, and then ending the day with a nice dinner and spending quality time with my family.
6) What is the biggest hurdle you’d say you’ve had to overcome while being self-employed?
RG: The biggest hurdle I’ve run into so far in my business has probably been just staying motivated. It’s so easy to fall into slumps but you have to keep reminding yourself of your “Why” and the things that make you wake up everyday to do this job: my family & my home are my driving forces.
7) What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received in regards to running your own company, and who gave you the advice?
RG: The best advice someone gave me was when I first got my real estate license back in 2018, and my mentor told me not to overextend myself — don’t go leasing new cars or breaking the bank because your clients and people will smell desperation from afar...which is 100 percent true. Stay within your means and be authentic.
